Bobby Lashley made his AEW debut on Wednesday, Oct. 30. He used the closing segment of Dynamite to attack Swerve Strickland after he’d handed Shelton Benjamin his first loss with the promotion.
In Lashley, AEW has a former WWE, TNA and ECW champion. He has been a main event talent for some of the biggest wrestling promotions in the world. He knows how to push a storyline, and brings a level of brute strength AEW has often been missing.
According to Eric Bischoff, who is usually outspoken regarding AEW and its perceived shortcomings, Lashley will likely be a success in his new home.
“He is just physically such a supreme athlete, and a rare one,” Bischoff said via his 83 Weeks podcast. “Like I said, I mean he’s intense, he’s incredibly strong. He’s capable of doing so much…It’s amazing to me. He’s smart; he’s very, very talented; and he’s very motivated. This isn’t — you know, as long as Bobby’s been around, you would think he’s probably kind of tired of this and just going through the motions, and maybe getting one last ride. He’s not that guy. This guy has a big heart, and he wants to go. So I’m excited for him. It’s a good thing Let’s hope Tony does something right.”
