Florida received a positive injury update from quarterback DJ Lagway (hamstring) on Wednesday.
Per On3, the five-star freshman practiced after suffering his injury and being forced to leave last Saturday’s 34-20 loss to College Football Playoff No. 3 Georgia (7-1, 5-1 in SEC) in the second quarter.
Lagway became the starter after quarterback Graham Mertz tore his ACL earlier this season.
In eight games, Lagway is 56-of-92 (60.9 percent) for 1,071 yards (11.6 yards per attempt), six touchdowns and five interceptions. He’s added 114 rushing yards on 37 carries.
His backup, Aidan Warner, was 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) for 66 yards and an interception in relief of Lagway in Week 10.
Per 247Sports, Lagway was the No. 3 national prospect in the 2024 high school recruiting class and the No. 1 quarterback.
The Gators play No. 5 Texas (7-1, 3-1 in SEC) on Saturday with head coach Billy Napier seeking the signature win of his tenure, which began in 2022.
In his first three years as Gators head coach, Napier has a 15-18 record.
Florida (4-4, 2-3 in SEC) hasn’t had a winning season since 2020 and has a difficult road to finishing 2024 above .500.
After its game against Texas, it hosts No. 14 LSU (6-2, 3-1 in SEC) and No. 16 Ole Miss (7-2, 3-2 in SEC) in consecutive weeks before ending the season against Florida State (1-8, 1-7 in ACC), the only non-threatening game on its remaining schedule.
The Gators need all the help they can get, and Lagway would certainly bolster their odds of pulling off an upset on Saturday.
Per ESPN Bet, Texas is favored by 21.5 points.
