Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick reportedly plans to return to the sidelines next year and has been repeatedly linked in stories with the New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles.

During an appearance on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Patriots/NFL insider Albert Breer suggested that Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan could give Belichick a call sooner rather than later if current Jacksonville coach Doug Pederson doesn’t save the club’s season this fall.

“They are just a sneaky one for Belichick for me,” Breer said about the Jaguars being a possible landing spot for the 72-year-old, as shared by Reice Shipley of Awful Announcing. “Tony Khan has really strong relationship with Bill Belichick — Shad’s son Tony. When they hired Doug Marrone and removed the interim tag in 2017, that was largely on the advice of Bill Belichick to do it. So Bill has had the ear of ownership in that place for a while now.”

The 2024 Jaguars fell to 0-3 via an embarrassing 47-10 loss at the Buffalo Bills on Monday night — Jacksonville’s eighth defeat across its past nine games under Pederson dating back to last season. That alone is enough to have any coach on the hot seat and Pederson’s cause is likely impacted by the fact that quarterback Trevor Lawrence looks lost months after Lawrence signed a five-year contract extension worth up to $275M with $142M fully guaranteed.

“I just wonder if that’s not rattling around in the heads of ownership there now,” Breer said about the Jaguars possibly targeting Belichick. “Especially when you’re renovating your stadium. And now you’ve got sponsorships to sell, you’ve got suites to sell. All of that stuff. Do you need some more credibility? There are some things that line up there where I wouldn’t totally rule out that as a viable possibility for Belichick in 2025.”

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio has hinted that Shad Khan could show Pederson the door if the Jaguars suffer a brutal loss at the 2-1 Houston Texans this coming Sunday. Belichick likely wouldn’t accept a coaching job midseason but theoretically could begin preparing to join the Jaguars in January 2025 as soon as next week should Khan blow things up before Halloween.
