South Carolina ended its regular season on a high note. Thanks to sophomore quarterback LaNorris Sellers’ outstanding performance, the Gamecocks might just be getting started.
South Carolina spoiled in-state rival Clemson’s bid for an at-large College Football Playoff berth while keeping their slim hopes alive with a sixth consecutive win.
South Carolina entered Week 14 ranked No. 15 by the CFP committee, trailing No. 12 Clemson (9-3, 7-1 in ACC), No. 13 Alabama (8-3, 4-3 in SEC) and No. 14 Ole Miss (9-3, 5-3 in SEC).
It lost to the Tide and Rebels earlier this season, but few would argue either of those teams are playing better than the Gamecocks, who have won six consecutive games.
Sellers was excellent against Clemson, finishing the 17-14 win 13-of-21 for 164 yards while adding 166 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries, becoming the first power conference quarterback this season to have at least 150 passing yards and 150 rushing yards in a single game.
His first touchdown tied the game at seven. Sellers avoided Clemson’s pass rush on the first-down play and scrambled for 25 yards, finding the pylon before he could be pushed out of bounds.
