Manchester United Football Club have confirmed the termination of Dan Ashworth’s contract as the club’s sporting director just five months after he was appointed.
The club announced the news on its website on Sunday, December 8, 2024, which was after the disappointing 3-2 defeat against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford a day earlier. Dan Ashworth was a key part of INEOS as he was in charge of the club’s recruitment of players to officials, he oversaw a £200m summer spend on Leny Yoro, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Light and Noussair Mazraoui.
The statement read as follows,
“Dan Ashworth will be leaving his role as sporting director of Manchester United by mutual agreement. We would like to thank Dan for his work and support during a transitional period for the club and wish him well for the future.”
During his time, Erik ten Hag was sacked as Man Utd manager in October and was replaced with former Sporting Lisbon coach, Ruben Amorim.
He had successful times at Brighton and the FA before Newcastle and was seen as a statement appointment by minority owners INEOS who saw him as one of the best on the job.
