Morocco aims to double its airport capacity to 80 million passengers by 2030, up from 38 million, as part of its preparations to co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal. While addressing parliament, Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch highlighted plans to expand Casablanca’s airport to accommodate 23.3 million passengers, with similar upgrades in tourist hubs Marrakech and Agadir. Infrastructure developments include the extension of the country’s high-speed rail network to Marrakech and Agadir and the renovation of 45 stadiums and training centers across six cities. A new 115,000-seat stadium near Casablanca is also planned, with investments in sports infrastructure estimated at $500 million. Morocco’s efforts underline its dual focus on boosting tourism and showcasing its readiness for global sporting events, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which it will host from December 2025 to January 2026.
