South Carolina women’s basketball won its 68th straight home game and improved to 16-1 Sunday with a 67-50 win over No. 5-ranked Texas.
The Gamecocks led comfortably throughout and never trailed after the 7:54 mark in the first quarter. They held Texas to just 27.8 percent shooting from the field, its lowest of the season.
Te-Hina Paopao and Chloe Kitts scored 11 each for South Carolina. Kitts added six rebounds and three assists.
Raven Johnson scored eight points and collected 10 rebounds, well above her season average of 4.5 rebounds per game.
The player of the game for the Gamecocks may have been Sania Feagin. Feagin had eight points, nine rebounds, three assists, one steal and six blocks. It was her first game this season with more than three blocks.
Texas struggled to get scoring from its starters, as they scored just 22 of the team’s 50 points.
Kyla Oldacre led the team in scoring with 11 points off the bench. She finished with 11 points and 16 rebounds, with 12 of those rebounds coming on the offensive glass. The double-double was her third of the season.
Longhorns stars Rori Harmon and Madison Booker struggled, combining for just 16 points on 7-of-30 shooting from the field.
South Carolina does not get a break in the schedule, as its next four games are against nationally ranked opponents.
Texas will face unranked Auburn before back-to-back games against ranked opponents in Maryland and Tennessee.
