President-elect Donald Trump said on Wednesday that Kari Lake will serve as the next Voice of America Director.
“She will be appointed by, and work closely with, our next head of the U.S. Agency for Global Media, who I will announce soon, to ensure that the American values of Freedom and Liberty are broadcast around the World …” Trump said in a Truth Social post on Dec. 11.
He adds, “Kari was a beloved News Anchor in Arizona, which supported me by record margins, for over 20 years. Congratulations Kari!”
Lake responded on X, saying she’s honored and that Voice of America will engage directly with people across the globe to promote democracy and the truth.
She recently lost her U.S. Senate bid to Rep. Ruben Gallego and in 2022, lost her run for Arizona’s next governor to Katie Hobbs.
What is Voice of America?
“VOA is part of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the government agency that oversees all non-military, U.S. international broadcasting. It is funded by the U.S. Congress,” its website says.
It was created in 1942.
The website detailed its history, saying, “Through World War II, the Cold War, the fight against global terrorism, and the struggle for freedom around the globe today, VOA exemplifies the principles of a free press.”
