Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen bolstered his case for MVP by becoming the first player to rush for three touchdowns and pass for three touchdowns in the same game. Yet, it still wasn’t enough as the Buffalo Bills fell to the underdog Los Angeles Rams 44-42 in a Week 14 thriller.
The Rams halted the Bills’ seven-game win streak in a game with a combined 12 touchdowns for a combined 86 points — the highest-scoring game of the 2024 season so far.
In the end, the Rams slowed the Bills down just enough and never let go of the lead once they extended it to 17–10 on a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 320 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The now-healthy wide receiver Puka Nacua led the way for the Rams by recording one receiving and one rushing touchdown. Nacua also made another highlight reel play with a toe-tap catch to haul in a crucial 19-yard reception in the second quarter.
Allen did everything he could to keep the Bills in the game, throwing for 342 yards and rushing for 82 yards on 10 carries. In comparison, Rams running back Kyren Williams rushed for 87 yards and ran in two touchdowns. Allen was the leading passer and nearly the leading rusher in a single game.
Allen has been the MVP favorite after he led the Bills to a “Sunday Night Football” victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. According to DraftKings Sportsbook, Allen is the betting favorite at -400 odds to win MVP.
Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley is closing in on the single-season rushing record after recording 124 yards in their Week 14 win against the Carolina Panthers. Yet, it’s Allen who has the clear lead on Barkley in the voting, as quarterbacks are often favored for the MVP award.
Allen has yet to be recognized as MVP and was only a runner-up once, but with each new eye-popping performance, he continues to cement himself at the top of the pack.
If the Bills can correct their mistakes and get back to winning, then it feels all but certain Allen will walk away with the award at the end of the season.
