The Dallas Cowboys were dealt more bad news recently regarding their franchise quarterback, Dak Prescott.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Saturday that the 2023 NFL MVP runner-up is planning to have season-ending surgery for his partially torn hamstring.
Prescott appeared to pull his hamstring awkwardly mid-throw during the team’s 27-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9.
Schefter noted that Prescott and the team are awaiting the opinion of an additional specialist but that team medical staff expect him to need the surgery.
If that unfortunate expectation comes to fruition, Prescott would be out for a minimum of four months.
Team owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Friday that Prescott “doesn’t want surgery” but that “there’s no question the injury is there.”
“He wants to be on the field and go for it,” Jones said. “He’s weighing that, and we’re weighing that. And we’ll just see how it goes here.”
It appears the decision has been mostly made in roughly 24 hours since Jones made those comments.
The Cowboys (3-5) will be led by backup passer Cooper Rush in Sunday’s divisional matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles.
During Prescott’s tenure with the team, Dallas has a 9-8 record without him under center but also a surprising 5-1 mark with Rush taking over. The team has only won one of three matchups with Philadelphia without Prescott.
