Trey Lance had some of the best moments of his tenure with the Dallas Cowboys during Saturday night’s third and final preseason game. He nearly threw for more yards in the 26-19 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers (323) than in the team’s first two preseason games combined (339). Lance also rushed for 90 yards with an impressive 46-yard touchdown run while tacking on a passing score.
However, the stat that will make the most headlines is the five interceptions thrown by the 24-year-old signal-caller. It’s more than Lance had thrown in the eight regular-season games played throughout his career combined, and after the game, he said he’s “not going to forget” about it any time soon.
“Ups and downs, for sure. I turned the ball over too many times.” Lance said, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “My confidence isn’t going anywhere. This sucks. This is one I’m not going to forget about any time soon, but it’s part of it. You just got to flush it and turn the page.”
While Lance’s preseason ended with a significant up-and-down performance, the upside he flashed on Saturday night is impossible to deny. Regardless, Cowboys fans are unlikely to see Lance under center in the near future, or possibly again with a star on his helmet, as Week 1 is on the horizon, and he’s slated to become a free agent in 2025.
Regardless, Lance gave both the Cowboys and future potential free-agent suitors plenty to consider next offseason.
