Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid moved up the franchise’s all-time points list in Wednesday night’s road matchup against the Minnesota Wild.

With the Oilers trailing 2-1, McDavid netted a goal on a power play, tying Jari Kurri for the second-most points (1,043) in franchise history. Earlier in the period, Oilers right winger Zach Hyman scored a goal off a McDavid assist.

McDavid still has a long way to go to catch the franchise’s all-time leader in points, Wayne Gretzky. In nine seasons with the franchise, “The Great One” recorded 1,669 points (583 goals and 1,086 assists).

Even if he never surpasses Gretzky, McDavid continues to cement himself as one of the best players in team history. In 10 seasons with the franchise, the 28-year-old has made seven All-Star Games and won three Hart Memorial Trophies.

McDavid and Co. are still trying to win the club’s first Stanley Cup since 1990. Last season, the Oilers made it to the cup but lost to the Florida Panthers in seven games.

If McDavid keeps playing at an elite level, Edmonton will remain in the Stanley Cup mix. In his first 40 games, he had 59 points (42 assists and 17 goals), tied for sixth in the NHL.
