One of the most expensive field goals ever kicked was successfully converted on ESPN’s “College GameDay” Saturday.
A Georgia student hit a 33-yarder for a grand prize of $800,000 — half of which is going to hurricane relief efforts.
Co-host Pat McAfee selected a Georgia student from the crowd to participate in his weekly kicking challenge. That student, Belle, opted to nominate another student, Henry, to kick for her and split the prize money.
McAfee accepted this proposal because Henry was from a town near Indianapolis, Indiana, where McAfee broadcasts his daily show.
The kick was supposed to be worth $200,000 — split evenly between Belle and Henry — plus another $200,000 from ESPN for hurricane relief efforts.
But, naturally, McAfee upped the stakes and doubled to the jackpot. The catch? Henry only had one shot to get the ball through the uprights.
Of course, Henry nailed the kick and had more than enough to clear the 33-yard distance.
“You’re a genius,” McAfee told Belle afterward. It might be the first time a student has had another kick for them and successfully converted.
The No. 11 Georgia Bulldogs (7-2) take on the No. 6 Tennessee Volunteers (8-1) on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
