With three seconds left in the game Friday, Josh Green made an important three-pointer. But it took so long to go through the hoop time ran out.

The Charlotte Hornets were trailing the New York Knicks, 99-95 when Green hit a clutch shot from the corner. It was going in, but the ball spun and spun on the rim until time expired, and the game ended in a 99-98 Knicks win.

Green was unstoppable in buzzer-beating situations Friday. At the end of the first half, Green scored four points in one second. He made a jumper, then hustled to steal Mikal Bridges’ inbounds pass and hit another shot before time expired.

Charlotte rallied from six points down with 48 seconds to go, but they could have been in a better position for Green’s heroics if they’d made their free throws. Moussa Diabate missed a free throw after he was fouled on a dunk, and Cody Martin missed one of two free throws after Charlotte rebounded Diabate’s miss.

It was another strong performance from the young Hornets that still ended in a loss. Playing without leading scorer LaMelo Ball and starting small forward Miles Bridges, the Hornets gave the Knicks all they could handle and hit big shots. The shots just didn’t go in fast enough.
