Former Duke men’s basketball standout Bobby Hurley will return to his alma mater for the first time in an official capacity later this year.

The current Arizona State head coach will lead his Sun Devils into Cameron Indoor Stadium on Oct. 27 for an exhibition match, announced Wednesday on X by Duke University.

Proceeds from the Blue Devil-Sun Devil showdown will go to benefit Duke Children’s Hospital.

“Bobby’s one of the all-time great players to ever play here,” Duke head coach Jon Scheyer said in a video on X. “To get a guy like him back to Duke, to celebrate what he’s done, to celebrate the brotherhood, it’ll be a really special thing.”

Hurley posted a statement on X saying the return to his alma mater will be “special” and that the exhibition partnership is “meaningful.”

Hurley was a two-time national champion and a first team all-American under former Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski from 1989-93, and he still holds the NCAA all-time assists record with 1,076, according to ESPN.

Arizona State has made three trips to the NCAA tournament in nine seasons with Hurley at the helm and currently boasts one of the top recruiting classes in the nation.
