NASCAR has found a new home for the Clash.
On Saturday, it was announced that the historic Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, will play host to the exhibition event in 2025, marking the first Cup Series event at the track since in over 50 years. The facility hosted 29 Cup Series races from 1958 to 1971.
Today, the stadium is the home to the CIAA’s Winston-Salem State Rams football team, which has played games at the stadium since 1956. The stadium also hosted Wake Forest home games from 1956 until 1967, when Winston-Salem State became the sole team to play its home games at the facility.
Bob Welborn was the first Cup Series winner at the track, with the winner of the final race in 1971 a disputed one. Bobby Allison claims the win — which would be his 85th — to this day, but in the official record books, the race does not have a winner listed.
Known as “The Madhouse,” the quarter-mile racetrack is known for being a breeding ground for hot tempers whenever races are held at the track. The stars of NASCAR could be the next group of drivers to create a memorable moment for the devoted fans who consistently show up at the historic venue.
Bowman Gray will mark the fourth track for the Clash in six years. The season-opening exhibition was run on the Daytona oval in 2020, the Daytona road course in 202 and at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum from 2022 to 2024.
Bowman Gray will also be the second consecutive quarter-mile track to host the race.
The 2025 Clash will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2. The race will be televised on FOX.
