Christmas is fast approaching and parents across the country have been doubling down on the shopping.
Technology and e-commerce company Coupon Birds surveyed 2,500 parents about their Christmas gift budgets this year.
Here’s a look at the results:
How much to spend per child on Christmas gifts?
Parents expect to spend $461 per child, on average, this Christmas.
On the high end, 9% of parents said they will spend $1,000 or more per child. And on the low end, 4% said they’ll keep it under $100.
Nearly half, 49% of parents, said they expected to go into debt to pay for Christmas this year by way of credit cards of Buy Now, Pay Later services.

The following states reported the highest plans for Christmas spending:
- New Jersey: $712
- Texas: $659
- Pennsylvania/Massachusetts: $648
Budgeted states
The following states reported the lowest plans for Christmas spending:
- South Dakota: $247
- West Virginia: $255
- Nebraska: $263
