It did not take long for former Georgia QB Carson Beck to find a new home.

Less than 24 hours after his shocking decision to enter the transfer portal on Thursday, ESPN’s Pete Thamel confirmed on Friday that Beck has signed with Miami.

Beck suffered a season-ending UCL injury in his throwing elbow during the first half of Georgia’s SEC Championship win over Texas on Dec. 7. Shortly after undergoing surgery on Dec. 23, Beck declared for the NFL Draft on Dec. 28.

According to Thamel, Beck opted against entering the NFL Draft after feedback suggested it would “help his stock to return and have a big season.” Since Beck will reportedly not be able to throw until March — which would keep him from being able to throw for teams in pre-draft workouts — there was some uncertainty whether he could be selected in the first round or as low as the third round. That ultimately led to Beck’s decision to enter the portal and pursue his final year of eligibility in college, per Thamel and fellow ESPN reporter Max Olson.

Beck backed up Stetson Bennett each of his first two seasons in Athens and has served as the Bulldogs’ starter since the start of the 2023 season. During that time, he has passed for 7,426 yards with 52 TDs and 18 interceptions. He rushed for five TDs during that span.

While Beck tossed a trio of three-interception games in 2024, he threw multiple TDs in nine games. Beck passed for more than 300 yards four times and did not throw a single interception in the last four games he appeared in.

In total, Georgia won nine games over AP Top 25 opponents with Beck under center and made consecutive appearances in the SEC title game.

This comes at a crucial time for Miami with Heisman Trophy finalist Cam Ward entering the NFL Draft. While the Hurricanes lost three of their last four games after a 9-0 start, the 2024 campaign was the first time since the 2017 season that Miami (10-3) won at least 10 games in a season.

According to Fox Sports, Ward was tied with Washington State’s John Mateer for the most total TDs in 2024 with 44. Needing a veteran signal-caller for the 2025 season to fill the void that Ward leaves behind, the Hurricanes certainly have to feel good about next season after Beck’s decision.

If Beck can return to form ahead of the 2025 season, Miami has a lot be excited for as it looks to build on a 10-win season and make a run at the College Football Playoff.
