Sunday’s 20-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars is a game Miami Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill will likely not soon forget, but not for his on-field performance but because of what transpired before.

As he was on his way to Hard Rock Stadium, Hill was stopped for a minor traffic violation and subsequently detained by officers after being taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs.

Hill was released with citations for careless driving and a seatbelt violation, and though he made it to the stadium in plenty of time to play against the Jags, Hill’s attorney Julius Collins stated on Monday the star wideout is considering taking legal action against the Miami-Dade PD.

“We believe that the officers’ actions on [Sunday], were excessive,” Collins said, via Pro Football Talk. “As Mr. Hill is appreciative of his status as a ‘celebrity,’ it is not lost upon him how so many others in similar situations have met a different fate and how fortunate all parties involved were able to walk away from this matter.”

According to Collins, Hill’s recollection of events involved police escalating matters after he gave them his driver’s license and rolled his window up.

An officer allegedly advised Hill to keep his window down or he would be removed from the vehicle. Hill rolled his window back down but another officer “aggressively approached” the WR and allegedly stated “if we have to break that [expletive] window, we will.”

“At no point in time did Mr. Hill pose a threat to these officers,” Collins added. “We believe that this matter was escalated due to overzealous officers attempting to impose their authority on Mr. Hill because they were not pleased with how fast he complied with their request and that Mr. Hill did not roll down his window far enough to their liking.”

Miami-Dade PD  released body-cam footage from the incident in the interest of transparency.
