NEW YORK – The iconic West Village brownstone that served as the fictional home of Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City has become a source of frustration for neighbors and its owners, leading to a request for a new gate to deter tourists.
What we know:
The brownstone at 66 Perry Street has remained a magnet for Sex and the City fans, even decades after the show premiered. Tourists and influencers routinely visit the site, often stepping over chains and ignoring “No Trespassing” signs to take photos or create social media content.
Neighbors and the building’s owners have reported issues including garbage, property damage, and constant disruptions.

This week, the building’s owners received approval from the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission to install a cast iron gate in place of the current chain to help curb the disturbances.
The backstory:
The owners of the building said that they only approved the use of their stoop for filming to be nice to the location scout who said they would lose their job if they didn’t secure the location, and that they had no idea what the show would bring in terms of popularity for their doorstep.
Decades after the show premiered, the property remains a focal point for fans, creating ongoing headaches for the owners and neighbors. Despite multiple attempts to keep visitors away, including signage and barriers, the location continues to attract tourists at all hours.
What’s next:
The approved cast iron gate is expected to be installed soon. While respectful fans of the show are still welcome to admire the site from a distance, the new gate aims to restore some peace to the block for its residents.
