Chelsea’s defender, Malo Gusto has been left out of France’s U-21 team ahead of the international break due to an injury he picked up in the league.

The French Football Federation (FFF) announced that the Blues right-back was among three withdrawals from the Under-21 squad due to play in the European Championship qualifiers against Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Malo Gusto started for Chelsea in their 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in the Premier League on Sunday, September 1, 2024, having played just 74 minutes at Stamford Bridge before he picked up the injury. The defender was later replaced by Mykhailo Mudryk who has not been able into the club’s first team.

Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca, said in a post-match press conference that the 21-year-old sustained a muscle issue and would need to be assessed.

He said,

“With Malo, we will see now what happens. It looks like a muscle problem, so we will see”

Chelsea are also without Reece James who suffered a hamstring injury during the club’s pre-season game against Real Madrid. The club’s supporters will hope the players will be back before their next game against Bournemouth on Saturday, September 15, 2024.
