Abdoulaye Maiga, who previously served as the government’s spokesperson, is a close ally of the military regime, which has controlled Mali since taking power in a 2021 coup. Although the junta initially pledged elections by March 2024, they have since postponed them indefinitely, raising concerns over the transition to civilian governance. The move underscores the military’s intention to maintain power amid growing domestic and international scrutiny.
