Chelsea legend Mikel Obi has opened up on the reason why the proposed transfer for Victor Osimhen to the club was unsuccessful.
Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has shed light on the failed summer transfer of Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen to Stamford Bridge, revealing the factors behind the breakdown of the deal.
In an exclusive account, Mikel explained that a mix of salary disagreements and complex negotiations ultimately led to the collapse of Osimhen’s move, leaving Chelsea fans speculating on what might have been.
Osimhen’s transfer to Chelsea fell apart due to disputes over his salary and a challenging transfer process. Napoli rejected Chelsea’s offer, while Osimhen also received interest from Saudi Pro League side Al Ahli.
Further complications arose when Napoli altered the terms of their deal with Al Ahli. Osimhen eventually secured a loan move to Galatasaray.
In an appearance on “The Obi One Podcast,” Mikel discussed why Osimhen didn’t make it to the Premier League, though a deal could still happen in January.
He said, “I know what Victor wanted, what the club offered him, and where negotiations stood. Both sides had to make compromises, and while there were minor issues with paperwork, medicals, and timing, both Chelsea and Victor worked hard to make the deal happen. I commend Chelsea for showing their ambition, and I saw how much Victor wanted to join the club.“
