The top-ranked Kansas Jayhawks picked a really bad night to lose their shooting touch.
Unranked Creighton took advantage and took down Kansas 76-63 in only the program’s second-ever upset over a No. 1 ranked opponent.
The Jayhawks shot a dismal 35.7 percent from the field and only hit eight of its 23 three-pointers chucked.
Star player Hunter Dickinson was held to just six points and effectively boxed out under the rim with only eight rebounds on the night.
On the other side of the ball, Creighton hit 12 three-pointers to assist it in a game where it never trailed from start to finish amazingly.
Junior Pop Issacs dropped a remarkable 27 points, including six of the team’s shots from behind the arc. All around, it was a huge team effort to take down the perennial juggernaut.
“This is the building No. 1 teams go to die evidently,” head coach Greg McDermott declared confidently to the Fox broadcast postgame as students stormed the court around him.
Kansas’ (7-1) undefeated start to the year came to an abrupt end as Creighton (6-3) earned itself as big of a Quad 1 win as a program can put on its resume.
Both squads will likely be expected to participate in the NCAA Tournament in March.
Kansas will travel to face SEC foe Missouri (Dec. 8) before returning home to host ACC opponent North Carolina State (Dec. 14).
Creighton will host UNLV (Dec. 7) before hitting the road for what looked like an intimidating lineup prior to Wednesday in No. 10 Alabama (Dec. 14) and then Georgetown (Dec. 18) to open up Big East play.
