John Calipari was dealt his first loss as head coach at Arkansas on Saturday in a game Arkansas never led in, as the No. 16 Razorbacks (1-1) fell to No. 8 Baylor (1-1) in Dallas by a score of 72-67.
A litany of offensive rebounds down the stretch was the difference in Baylor holding on to defeat an Arkansas squad that came back from multiple double-digit deficits.
Jayden Nunn led the Bears with 16 points, with V.J. Edgecombe icing the game with two clutch free throws in the closing seconds.
Arkansas took the rest of the clock off on their final possession, only managing to get one shot up with five seconds remaining.
Kentucky transfer Adou Thiero led Arkansas with 24 points on 10 field goals, with Boogie Fland contributing 17 points.
For the second straight game, Arkansas struggled to shoot from beyond the arc. Arkansas only made five of 20 three-point attempts and was unable to make threes late in the game while Baylor’s offense was heating up.
Eleven Arkansas turnovers also hurt the Razorbacks down the stretch, as 10 points off turnovers for the Bears kept Baylor in control for much of the contest.
The Razorbacks return to Fayetteville on Nov. 13 to face Troy, while Baylor will return to Waco on Nov. 12 when they face off with Sam Houston.
