The New York Giants can’t seem to get their act together this season.
On the opening kickoff against the Cleveland Browns, Giants second-year running back Eric Gray fumbled at New York’s 23-yard line, and Browns safety Grant Delpit recovered it.
On the ensuing play, Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson threw a 24-yard touchdown to wide receiver Amari Cooper, giving Cleveland an early 7-0 lead.
The Giants (0-2) couldn’t afford a terrible start against the Browns (1-1). They’re coming off an embarrassing 21-18 road loss to the Washington Commanders (1-1) in Week 2.
Before the loss to Washington, Giants head coach Brian Daboll refused to elevate backup kicker Jude McAtamney to the game-day roster, even though starting kicker Graham Gano was dealing with a groin issue.
On New York’s opening kickoff vs. Washington, Gano injured his hamstring and missed the rest of the game. New York punter Jamie Gillan missed one extra-point attempt, and the Giants failed on two two-point conversion attempts.
Daboll’s seat could be getting warmer. On a recent episode of the “Breaking Big Blue” podcast, ESPN’s Jordan Raanan signaled he’s losing the locker room’s trust.
If the Giants lose to the Browns, that may raise more questions about Daboll’s future.
