This track, years in the making, began during a quiet moment in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, where JahBradez felt a deep spiritual connection to the music’s chord progression. Inspired, he quickly found himself humming melodies that would later shape the song. While the initial spark occurred over two years ago, he says the song’s message only grew more compelling as time passed, reflecting his introspections on heritage and identity.

For JahBradez, We Are Black goes beyond sound—it’s a conversation. As he revisited high school history lessons on African origins, he felt compelled to address the enduring narratives that distort Black identity, particularly those influenced by European colonial history. “To me, We Are Black is more than just music—it’s a conversation about the truths and fallacies we’ve been fed, especially around the distorted narratives in European history,” he explains. These reflections fuel the song, which aims to challenge these stereotypes and celebrate Black identity.

The artwork for We Are Black visualizes this struggle beautifully. At its center, a newborn baby is surrounded by positive affirmations, representing the nurturing love and belief instilled by a mother. Yet, as the artwork moves outward, this nurturing environment contrasts with the harsh societal messages waiting outside—doubt, stereotypes, and imposed limitations.
