Hardworking hip hop-reggae solo artist Ben Barbic is back, teaming with Alpha Steppa in a brand new single and video! Entitled “Sound”, the track details the hustle involved with building your music career from the ground (or rather, underground) up.

Teaming with Alpha Steppa, son of the royal dub and roots UK duo Alpha & Omega, shows just how far Barbic’s determination in his craft has taken him.

And cross-continental collaborations is only the start of what this artist has accomplished. From radio plays in foreign countries to a hefty social media follower count, Barbic’s “sound” has evolved into something truly notable. In the new track, released via Rebel Sound Records on September 24th, Barbic lists the “pain” and “purpose” he’s put into his “sound”; his sound is his entire self. The beginning of the track repeats how he’s not “going back again” — truly, he can’t if he tried. Barbic is so interwoven with his sound that he cannot fathom a unilateral existence again.

In this world lyric video premiere, by King I-Vier of Upmost PR, Barbic visually communicates his story through street art, overlaid with lyrics in urban font flashing colorfully across the frame. But this is more than just wall tagging; Barbic knows the cycle of pop culture is always the same — what was once unknown, becomes grown. What is underground now becomes mainstream before you know it. Just look at the genres of hip hop and reggae! From their inception to today, these musical styles went from being on the fringes of what is socially acceptable to listen to to being commonplace — even dominating the Top 40! As Barbic links his underground status to graffiti, he is simultaneously declaring that his art is the next big thing. He’s about to break on through to the other side, so you best be paying attention.
