The new year is not off to a great start for Barcelona as La Liga has now confirmed that Dani Olmo has been dropped from the Catalan’s 2025 squad.

Pau Victor and Dani Olmo have been removed from Barcelona’s 2025 squad list of registered players by La Liga after the club missed a critical deadline. Olmo, who joined Barcelona during the summer transfer window in a £50 million deal from RB Leipzig, has been exceptional for the Catalan giants.

Despite his impressive performances, Barcelona faced challenges registering Olmo due to ongoing financial constraints imposed by La Liga. While the club managed to secure his temporary registration until the end of 2024, the issue has now escalated.

On Tuesday, December 31, 2024, La Liga released a statement rejecting Barcelona’s latest attempt to register the players. According to the Daily Mail, the league stated, “FC Barcelona has not presented any alternative that, in compliance with LaLiga’s economic control regulations, would allow it to register any player after 2 January.”

Both Olmo and Victor are no longer listed as registered players on the Spanish top-flight’s official website, with the club failing to finalize their registration before the deadline. If the Spanish Football Federation continues to block Olmo’s registration, he could leave as a free agent in January. La Liga is urging Barcelona to make further financial adjustments, such as cutting costs and increasing revenue, to meet regulatory requirements.

Amid these uncertainties, Olmo has been linked with a move to the Premier League. Clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United are reportedly monitoring his situation and could act swiftly if he becomes available as a free agent.

This season, Olmo has proven his importance to Barcelona, scoring six goals in 15 appearances across all competitions.
