Afrobeats sensation Rema has been bestowed a prestigious royal plaque by the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to promoting Edo State and the ancient Benin Kingdom globally.
The award was presented to Rema during his visit to the Oba of Benin’s palace ahead of his homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium.
Also, this royal honor follows Rema‘s participation in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Edo Arena on Wednesday. Here, Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki announced that the 6,000-capacity venue would be named ‘Rema Dome’. This is in recognition of the artist’s significant impact on promoting Edo State.
Meanwhile, Rema, who hails from Benin City, has consistently celebrated his Edo roots through his music. Additionally, he has been instrumental in promoting the cultural legacy of the ancient Benin Kingdom on both national and international stages.
Also, his latest hit single, Benin Boys, featuring fellow Edo-born artist Shallipopi, pays tribute to his hometown. So, it asserts his deservingness of royal recognition from the Oba.
